What to expect in your first parent tot swim lesson
Parent tot swim lessons are designed for parents who want their infant and toddler to get accustomed to the water.
It is never too early to introduce your child to the water!
This swimming lesson is a great way for parents to bond with their children while teaching them all about water safety. The lessons are held in shallow pools where the parents can stand comfortably in the water while helping their child learn basic water safety and swimming skills.
The classes are also held in normal size swimming pool on the shallow end of the pool.
Infants and toddlers aged 1 to 4 years of age can usually participate in this program.
During our parent and tot swim, you will enjoy and concentrate on your infant or toddler. Mothers, fathers, grandparents, and caregivers bond in a pleasant way.
It develops trust and encourages social engagement with other baby swimmers. Other than this the child learns to experience and show confidence in being in water.
What do infant and toddler swimmers need for this class?
The young swimmers would need a swimsuit. There are beautiful swimsuits available in Mothercare and Firstcry that you would like to check out. We have given some of the links also that you can visit. The kids need to be comfortable and should get accustomed to chlorine water. Swim caps are usually mandatory for all. Goggles are not necessary but one can buy them if your child feels fine.
Swimsuit
When choosing a swimsuit for infants, here are some things to consider.
- Check for the correct size so that the swimsuit fits comfortably.
- The material should be soft and stretchable so that it does not irritate the child’s skin.
- In Indian weather, it is best to use a UPF 50+ swimsuit to protect your baby from harmful UV rays.
- It should be easy to slip into the swimsuit.
- Look for swimsuits that have diaper access, which will make it easier for you to change your baby’s diaper while at the beach or pool.

What are the benefits of parent and tot swim lessons?
These swim lessons provide numerous benefits to children and parents too in terms of water safety. Here are some benefits to consider.
Introduce to water
It is important to start young, be it anything. Children learn faster when their minds are like plastic and can learn fast. Scientists attribute this to a still-developing prefrontal cortex that is flexible for learning more when they are young.
Water safety
Parent and tot swim lessons teach basic water safety skills to both the child and the parent. This includes learning how to enter and exit the water safely, how to float and kick, and how to submerge and hold your breath.
Bonding
The swim lessons provide a fun and interactive way for parents to bond with their children while introducing them to the water. These are invaluable memories which you will cherish all your life.
Health benefits
Swimming is a great form of exercise that can help improve cardiovascular health, muscle strength, and overall fitness for both the child and the parent. It is also a low-impact sport where both the parent and child be safe.
Confidence
By introducing children to the water at a young age, they develop confidence and comfort in the water, which can help them become better swimmers in the future.

The toddler would learn front and back floats, breath controls, water safety, arm/leg movement in a fun way.
What are some of the safety measures you should consider while in the pool?
Follow the instructors
As parents and guardians, you need to follow the instructor. The instructors are specially trained to conduct these classes for infants. You as a parent should closely watch and follow the steps that the instructor gives.
Clear pool rules are established and communicated to both parents and children before the lesson begins. These rules may include no running or diving, no horseplay, and always listening to the instructor.
Shallow water
Parent and tot swim lessons are typically held in a shallow pool or in the shallow end of a normal-sized pool. You need to be in the area demarcated for the swim classes.
Hygiene
Swimmers are expected to follow proper hygiene practices, such as showering before entering the pool and using the restroom before the lesson. Swim diapers are also required for children who are not yet potty trained.
Proper supervision
A certified swim instructor is always present during parent and tot swim lessons to ensure that the children and parents are safe in the water. Swim parents or guardians are also expected to closely supervise their children during the lessons.
